Switchgear Testing

Electrical System Testing

We provide On-Site Acceptance Testing  services for plant electrical infrastructures including but not limited to : switchgear,cables/bus, MCC's, contactors, circuit breakers, switches, transformers, motors, UPS's, VFD's, soft start, and battery systems.  The testing methods we use are in compliance with NETA/IEEE standards. Utilizing both our wisdom and understanding of manufacturing specifications in tandem with those industry standards, we evaluate equipment in depth to meet all known requirements.

Commissioning

New equipment installation require testing and verification of proper installation and operations prior to energization.

We provide on-site third party Commissioning of High, Medium, & Low Voltage electrical equipment 230 Kilo-Volts and below including but not limited to: Indoor/Outdoor Substation Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, MCC's, large and small power and control substation transformers, cables/bus insulation systems, Microprocessor/Electro-mechanical based Protection & Control systems, Substation Battery/ UPS systems, Electric motor and Generator insulation and control systems, Neutral & High Resistance Grounding systems and Oil & Vacuum Insulation systems.

Preventive Maintenance

Examining your equipment for premature wear and possible points of failure can keep your equipment in prime operational condition and reduce downtime from unforseen equipment failures.

We provide Predictive/Preventive Maintenance & Specialty Testing for High, Medium, and Low Voltage Electrical Equipment (138 KV and Below).

VLF/Tan Delta Power Factor Insulation Testing for End of Life Trending.

Infrared Thermography.

Partial Discharge Analysis.

Protection and Control Relay and Circuit Breaker Testing.

Substation Battery/UPS System Load Testing.

Motor/Generator Winding Diagnostic Testing,.

Grounding System Integrity Testing.

Insulation Oil Analysis & Vacuum Integrity Testing.

Partial Discharge

Partial Discharge can slowly erode the insulating material in your equipment's cabling and switchgear causing it to fail. Studies show that 85% of disruptive failures in HV and MV power equipment is Partial Discharge related. Partial discharge can happen at any point in the system's insulation when the breakdown strength of the material is exceeded by the electrical field strength. This process can progress until the insulation is no longer able to withstand the stress and leads to flashover causing sudden and potentially disastrous failure.  It can occur across the surface of the insulation, within bubbles in liquid insulation , voids in solids insulation material or around an electrode in gas insulation. Because Partial Discharge emits Electromatic emissions (radio waves, light & heat), Acoustic emissions (audible and ultrasonic) and Ozone and Nitrous Oxide gases it can be detected while electrical equipment is online allowing for cost effective and efficient planning of maintenance, repair or replacement.

We provide online testing and analysis of your equipment to identify instances of Partial Discharge in your equipment and offer maintenance, repair or replacement options that are tailored to your business needs.

Infrared Testing

Infrared thermography, a non-destructive form of testing, can find stressed elements in your electrical equipment caused by defective components or loose connections. By using thermal imagery to measure and map  surface temperatures, hot spots that indicate high resistance areas in electrical surfaces, can be identified and assist in planning your predictive/preventative maintenance resolutions. We offer Infrared Testing of your equipment as part of our comprehensive Maintenance Services along with Engineering Solutions for all your power related needs.

Oil Testing

Scheduled testing and analysis of the insulating oil in your equipment can provide a baseline of the equipment's status and helps identify potential failures. Insulation oil can deteriorate over time due to oxidation, contamination and excessive temperatures.  By testing the breakdown voltage and other physical and chemical properties of the insulation oil, any deterioration or moisture ingress can be determined and duty lifespan can be assessed for the electrical equipment.

We provide oil sampling and analysis as part of our comprehensive on site equipment maintenance services.

Power Quality Analysis

Electrical power can be of poor quality due to electrical noise that can be produced from improper wiring, incorrect grounding, unbalanced loads among other factors. Service Interruptions, equipment malfunctions, excessive power consumption are all signs of poor power quality and although perfect power is not truly obtainable in the real world, Power Quality Analysis of your electrical system can minimize the risk of lost production and damage to electrical equipment. By monitoring your electrical system for unusual events it can be determined if power conditioning equipment  or other steps are needed to resolve instances of poor power quality.

Some of the Power Quality Analysis of Power Systems we provide are:

Arc Flash Hazard plus engineered Mitigation Solutions

Load Flow & Short Circuit Studies

Protective Device Coordination Studies

Power Quality/Transient (Lightning) Studies

Reliability Assessments

NERC Compliance Review for Utility Power Generation Plants

Switching Procedure Development

Turn Key Field Engineering Projects

Monitoring

Whether it's monitoring of your electrical equipment for power quality or long term assessment of equipment reliability, our Power Engineers and Technicians can provide the expertise needed to identify existing or potential problems in your electrical infrastructure.

Our level of experience allows us to not only correct issues found but also allows us to offer engineered solutions to any quality or reliability problem disclosed from monitoring.

Diagnostic

We provide diagnostic testing and analysis of Control Systems, Cables, Motors/Generators, Motor Windings, Switchgear and Transformers and Protective Relays.

Our technicians and engineers are NETA certified and up to date on diagnostic testing principals. We test to the latest NETA/IEEE standards and adhere to the manufacturer's guidelines for each individual piece of equipment.

Troubleshooting

Equipment failures can be difficult to diagnose in advance of their occurrence. By using Root Cause Analysis to assess the equipment operations, the cause of the failure can be determined and the appropriate remedial actions can be taken. By using a Sequence of Events Review and System Mapping to Detect Unidentified Anomalies potential failures can be identified and engineered solutions can be developed to correct problems that can lead to equipment failures thereby avoiding unforseen downtime.

We provide On Site troubleshooting of Power and Control Systems.

System Mapping to Detect Unidentified Anomalies

Emergency Services

We provide 24/7/365 emergency services for all your power needs. Whether you need, repair parts, emergency repair, or engineering/troubleshooting assistance we are available to provide you with the services you need. We have NETA certified technicians that can provide on-site repair and modifications to your equipment and our Power Engineers can provide engineered solutions to correct system problems and assist you in any additions or modifications to your systems.
